Possible internship in Athens

Hey Everyone! I am posting an email from Mrs. Kelly Simmons who is the editor of Georgia Magazine about a possible internship opportunity for the fall. If you want to apply please send the information she requests below to simmonsk@uga.edu. Stay tuned for information about our first meeting of the semester.

Sarah,
I am unexpectedly in need of a second intern for the 2010/11 academic year. The job requires that interns be here 10 hours a week (time spent reporting outside the office is counted against those 10 hours) and applicants must have proven writing skills and a good grasp of AP style. The pay is $7.50 an hour. If you would pass along my contact info to members of the club, I would appreciate it.
Have them send me a current resume and clips/writing samples.
Thanks.
Kelly

Resigning my Post

Hi Mag Clubbers!

We had our last meeting of the semester last week, and as graduating seniors, Jordan and I are both thrilled to present you all with the new officers for the 2010-2011 school year: Maggie Siu and Sarah Osbourne! Congratulations, girls!

Also, I have been receiving a lot of emails from people who no longer wish to be on the list-serv. If you are one of those people, please feel free to unsubscribe yourself from the list-serv by visiting this link: http://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=magclub-l&A=1. Please do not email me to remove you from the list-serv.

Thanks for a great last two years. I wish all of you the best of luck in your time at UGA and thereafter. Stay in touch!

Officers for Next Year

Hi All--

As school is coming to a close, we're going to start looking at candidates that are interested in being a Mag Club officer next year. There are going to be 2 positions next year, so if you are interested please send me (katemparham@gmail.com) your resume with a brief decription of why you want to be whatever the position you're applying for is. Nothing fancy/formal, just a few sentences describing what you'd like do as an officer. Here are the 2 positions you can apply for:

1. President: The president is responsible for coordinating all meetings. There is no list of people that you can get to come speak, so your primary job as president is brainstorming ideas for meetings, researching who in the GA area could speak on that topic, and contacting said person to schedule a meeting. This is a lot more work than it sounds, and it requires a BIG time commitment. You will also have to contact Campus Reservations to request rooms for each meeting. In addition to all of that, the president oversees everything else that goes on with the club, is responsible for updating the website and getting the word out about meetings, sending out information over the listserv, and responding to emails. It's a great way to make some good connections in the magazine industry, not to mention a HUGE RESUME BUILDER!

2. Secretary/Treasurer: This person is responsible for handling all of the finances for Magazine Club. Basically, this position is the President's wingman. They buy the food for each meeting, collect dues, and keep track of all the paperwork. This person will also help the president in times of need.

OK... so, if you have any questions about the positions you can email the current president (yours truly at katemparham@gmail.com) or the current secretary, Jordan Biasetti.

Applications are due by APRIL 14TH @ 7PM. New officers will be announced at the final Mag Club meeting of the semester, on April 21 @ 7 pm. Good luck!
